SSR Projects Due 5-17
All Make-up work : Due 5-17
Field Trip dates updated
Dear 6th Grade Parents,
We are coming down the home stretch of 6th grade and getting ready to prepare your children for seventh grade. I have spoken with Mr. Craig, Mrs. Mahaney, and the middle school teachers. We have come to a conclusion that the hardest part of transitioning to seventh grade is not the academic part, but the social and changing of classes. We have changed our mornings to help accommodate and prepare our sixth grades for this change next year. The students will be changing classes and interacting with the high school students for the rest of the fourth nine weeks. They have begun a new elective class to experience the middle school teachers and their expectations for next year. The student’s will be graded in this elective and could possibly have homework. I am still their teacher and will be going over new concepts in our curriculum. I will be in the high school wing working off the bell schedule with them, so they are able to get a concept of the time we have per class next year. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at the school or by e-mail (rguerra@tidioutecharter.com).
SSR Reading Project Assigned: 3-28-2012, Due: 5-17-2012
Required: Approved novel (No Pictures, over 100 pages), Summary, Diorama
Project: Students are responsible for a 1 page summary. Paragraphs 1 and 2 are to be a summary on the story, characters, and plot. Paragraph 3 is to deal with your thoughts on the book. These are paragraphs and they must be typed in size 12, times new roman, double spaced font. The paragraphs must be the correct number of sentences, include proper grammar and punctuation. The second part of the project is a diorama or a life size drawing of the main character and a character interpretation. A diorama is a small scale version of a scene from the story. I recommend using a shoebox and creating a scene on the inside. Must be 3-dimensional and used with a variety of materials not just construction paper. The life size drawing must be in color and be accurate to the description of the character, must provide details from the story to how you knew that character was depicted in the manor you created them. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A COMPUTER, I WILL ALLOW YOU TO USE THE CLASSROOM ONES ON YOUR OWN TIME, (RECESS, LUNCH, SPECIAL ACTIVITIES). I ALSO HAVE MATERIALS FOR THE DRAWING PART. THIS PROJECT IS TO BE DOWN OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL.
Points: 50 Points (25 for paper, 25 for diorama or drawing)

6th Grade at TCCS
Throughout the year your sixth grade student will be challenged not only in the classroom, but outside as well. This challenge is one that will hopefully prepare them for future success in the middle and high school. Respect and Responsibility are the main challenges that our students will face. By creating an environment that challenges the students, it also prepares them for the road ahead. They will be ready for the transition to becoming a responsible teenager and young adult.
6th Grade Goes Green
Our 1st expeditionary project that was completed was titled "6th Grade Goes Green". We incorporated this project across the curriculum (Reading, Math, Science, and History) to receive as much information on going green and how to help our planet. The students created a bulletin board on their carbon foot prints as well as ways that we could turn our classroom into a "greener" classroom.
